Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. One of the oldest Biochemistry Departments in Nigeria. Our focus is centered on Teaching and Research in Biochemistry and Applied Biochemistry. The Department can boast of an array of highly trained and positive-minded academic staff drawn from different areas of specialization unique to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The Department has been at the forefront of training and human capacity building in the fields of Biochemistry/Molecular Biology, Nutrition, and Biotechnology. We have also been at the forefront of National development and cutting-edge research with affiliations around the globe. We hope you will find the information on this site helpful. Mission, Vision and Philosophy
To produce highly skilled manpower with adequate theoretical and practical knowledge in Biochemistry, Molecular biology, Biotechnology, Nutrition and Environmental conservation and safety to meet the requirements of modern research and industry for the development of the community and the world at large.
Department of Biochemistry ABU shall be a world class Department comparable to any other engaged in imparting contemporary knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, Nutrition and Environmental conservation and safety using modern state of the art teaching and research facilities to aspiring scientist from all over the world; develop and pursue innovations relevant to the immediate needs of the community, Nigeria and the world at large.
The major thrust of the Department’s Programmes is teaching and research, which must have considerable biochemical content and should be conducted in any of the following or other areas of biochemistry under the supervision of approved supervisory committee as staff and equipment are available.
